Developing the Next Generation Supply Chain Skills Within Your Team
The supply chain professional is a valuable asset to every corporation, one that requires continuous development in order to keep ahead of the dynamic nature of the marketplace. The new SCM leader needs to:
- Be a bold advocate for Supply Chain solutions
- Understand the complexities of the enterprise
- Bring innovative solutions that speed product development, reduce total cost, and improve quality, service and delivery.
This role is not a dramatic departure of our current activity, but one that due to our growing impact has become front and center, and is expected to show increasing value.
SCM leaders need to define the skills, and create programs that develop those skills internally and externally to the organization. We have shown that collaboration with internal customers, and our first tier suppliers, can create significant synergy to benefit the enterprise. We need to use all of the available solutions to exceed the expectations of the CFO, business heads, and the CEO. The SCM team will be:
- Embedded within the organization
- Work on virtual teams to inculcate best procurement practices
- Extend the capabilities of the team, using the full resources of the Supply Chain
The SCM leadership will need to:
- Integrate rotational programs
- Build relationships with Universities that generate SCM graduates
- Create mentoring solutions across all levels of the enterprise and within the supplier base
The teams that can create a comprehensive resource plan, and deliver results driven teams, will be fully recognized.
